How to be blessed is a question many people ask and rightly so! It is a foolish man who does not want to be among the blessed of the Lord of creation! It is His blessings that bring peace and comfort in all situations, struggle’s and joy alike!
As we examine the writing of King David, he reveals how we can come under the blessings of the Lord and find favor of Him!
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The term “Blessed” in the original form means a continual blessing! Not just a one and out thing!
Jesus began the Sermon on the Mount with these same words!
Matthew 5 (KJV)
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
To be a “Blessed” individual is a wonderful thing.
Deuteronomy 7: (KJV)
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15 And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
“Blessed” is the man! A continual blessing! Only to those who keep His words!
This is the beginning of understanding how to be blessed. So, blessed is the man who,..
(#) He does not walk In the counsel of the ungodly! He does not look to the ungodly for his direction but unto the Lord as the Good shepherd! The one who loves His sheep and gives His life for them! Jesus said:
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
(#) He does not stand in the way of the sinner! He does not practice sin nor does he make it a practice to follow after those who sin! He does not make his hangout with the sinner and his devices! He instead seeks the Lord while it is early and ask for grace to empower him to overcome the devices and wiles of the sinner who may temp him! He renews his mind early to become transformed into the image of the dear Son of God. He separates himself from those who are sinners. He is not of this world, although he may live in the world he has been delivered from this present evil world and the sin hold it had on him.
(#) He does not make his dwelling or seat among the heathen, nor the Atheist who are scornful and believe there is no God! He finds no rest around those who would scoff and make fun of the eternity of heaven and hell, the eternal God! The Blasphemer who proclaims there is no God and does it publicly! Those who believe these lies and teach others to observe them with them! Their seat may be a very high seat for the moment but it will surely be brought down to hell!
This is the person who has learned the true meaning of the scripture Jesus spoke:
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
This is the person who has learned that:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”.
This is the person who has learned that:
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
This is the person who has learned that:
And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God,
We certainly need to have a great desire for the word so much so that we press into it daily for the life it gives, the inspiration it gives, the grace it supplies, What a great treasure! To delight in the Law (Word) of God!!
Oh, that we would be like trees planted by the rivers of waters! This indicates a tree planted, not just a tree from a seed blown by the wind but a peculiar tree picked out by the master planter! A tree with a promise of great growth, stamina and endurance!
Trees chosen for their looks and beauty and stability! Not sickly or blighted trees but chosen ones! Planted by the rivers of waters that will nourish it and cause it’s roots to go deep so that when the storms rage and the test of time comes, it will stand firm because or the root it has established itself in! Jesus is that root!
For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
(#) A tree planted by the rivers of water will bring forth fruit in plenty! And the fruit will come in season as it should! It will be large and good to eat! It will be filling to the soul! It will be nourishment to those who are in need and struggling! The fruit we bear is life to those around us!
(#) The leaves shall not wither! The appearance or countenance of the tree shall remain in the best of health. You see, the root not only produces the fruit but it also produces the health of the tree! Its leaves shall not wither!
(#) Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper! Hallelujah, this man’s work will be blessed! When he has allowed the root, Jesus Christ to be the source, all he does will be blessed because Jesus is the life of the tree! All his ways are blessed! All his works are blessed! All he does is blessed when he has allowed Jesus to be his source.
This verse makes me think of Peter when Jesus told him that Satan and desired him to sift him as wheat. But looking at the scripture I believe not only peter was involved here but all of the disciples! This is a process of much tumult! The wheat is forcefully moved across the sifter to remove all the chaff! Then the wheat is gathered into the master’s barns while the chaff is thrown out to be burned or the winds blow away! The chaff is worthless after the harvest!
At the end of this world when Jesus sends his angels for his harvest the wheat will be gathered into his barns (Heaven) and the chaff will be cast out into everlasting punishment! (Hell) The ungodly will meet a sudden destruction and nothing will be able to save them then!
I see the judgment and after here! The sinner will not stand in the judgment of the church! Only those washed in the precious blood of Jesus will stand at the Judgment seat of Christ! There will be a separation and none of the ungodly will be there!
The sinners will meet their own fate in what has become known as the Great White Throne judgment! This is where Jesus said many would say in that day, Lord, we have done many great works, many mighty works, cast out devils, preached and done many wonderful works in your name! Then the Lord will turn to them and say, depart from me ye who work iniquity for I never knew you!
You see, anyone can do a righteous deed, even sinners! The word righteous means to do what is right! You do not have to be saved to do a good or right deed! Many sinners do right deeds. Many give to the poor, contribute to the church, contribute to many different charities that help others, etc! This does not make them righteous!
The sinner’s reward is here upon this earth! The Son’s reward is in the Kingdom of the Father! These two will be separated at the end of this world.
(#) For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
He watches over us constantly!
Matthew 10:29-31 (KJV)
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Job 23:10 (KJV)
10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
At the end of this world when the tares are gathered and cast into the lake of fire, Jesus said:
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
(#) but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Notice that in this verse the comment, “the way” it is saying that not only will the ungodly perish but their ways will perish also. There will be no unholy or unrighteous thing enter the kingdom of our God, nor will there be any unrighteous or unholy ways there! It could be noted, “The way of the ungodly will perish with them” and still be true!
The righteous man builds upon the cornerstone the unrighteous build upon the sand! “and great was the fall of it.” The unrighteous will loose everything.
May the Lord cleanse your hearts and your ways, that you may escape the doom of the ungodly, and enjoy the blessedness of the righteous!
